1946 is considered to be the year of foundation of Jurbarkas culture centre. Since 1979 the cultural centre is located in the current building and has Girdžiai, Skirsnemunė and Žindaičiai departments.

 Jurbarkas cultural centre is the most popular gathering place for the town community. Usually over 40,000 visitors visit the events organized by the cultural centre in one season. All amateur art groups are active participants of various events and festivals.

Jurbarkas cultural centre is a modern artistic educational institution that upholds national and local traditions and creates new ones, organizes the dissemination of professional art, leisure and entertainment and meets the cultural needs of the community.


The Girdžiai department of Jurbarkas cultural centre is in a small, but beautiful village named Girdžiai. The village is located 9 km from Jurbarkas, on the river bank of Mituva. Girdžiai is a village that has preserved old cultural traditions. St. Anne's indulgences have been held at St. Mary Magdalene church, which is located in village Girdžiai. Barn theatre performances have been shown for more than 100 years.

Girdžiai village is notorious for its barn theatre “Mituvis” (head - Loreta Zdanavičienė). The vocal ensemble (head - Algimantas Vizbara) invites villagers to sing together.

The main traditional events organized by Girdžiai department are the barn theaters festival “Girdžių krivūlė”, which brings together barn theaters from all over Lithuania, “Oninės” (St. Anne’s feast) - a merry community festival, which crowns St. Anne's indulgences and a theatrical autumn gifts fair “Senasis turgus” (Old Bazaar).


The Skirsnemunė department of Jurbarkas culture centre is located, in the picturesque village named Skirsnemunė, 10 km from Jurbarkas, on the right bank of the river Nemunas. Skirsnemunė has been famous for its St. Bartholomew's indulgences, the Skirsnemunė department of Jurbarkas culture centre theater “Pakeleivis” (head - Birutė Šneiderienė) and women's vocal ensemble “Vikinda” (head - Olga Jurėnienė).

The main events organized annually by the Skirsnemunė department are the village festival, which takes place together with St. Bartholomew's indulgences, and the republican theater festival "Lauro vainikas", which invites the best amateur theaters from all over Lithuania to Skirsnemunė village.


The Žindaičiai department of Jurbarkas cultural centre is located in a small village named Žindaičiai, 13 km from Jurbarkas, on the right bank of the river Mituva. The activities of the department include not only Žindaičiai village, but also the whole Jurbarkai eldership. Žindaičiai village is well known for its merry St. John's Day celebration. Žindaičiai village is famous for the women's vocal ensemble "Raskila" (head - Andžela Jagminaitė).

 The main events organized annually by the Žindaičiai department are St. John's Day and the beautiful autumn celebrations, which bring the village community together.
